Rare meteor shower this week
Stargazers are in for a treat this week with the arrival of a Christmas light show to illuminate the heavens.
From tomorrow evening Islanders will be able to spot shooting stars from the Geminid meteor shower.
The peak time is expected to be 2 a.m. on Friday.
Geminid is so named after the constellation Gemini, from which the meteors seem to radiate.
Eddie McGonagle of the Astronomical Society of Bermuda said: "The north-eastern sky will be dark as the crescent moon sets, allowing us to see the early arrival of the Geminid meteor shower.
"Initially, these shooting stars will be sparse as they slowly streak across the sky but as the night progresses so should the number of mentors seen.
"During this time, Mars shines like a beacon just south of Gemini's two bright stars, Castor and Pollux.
"A bit more to the south is the sky's brightest star, Sirius, with the glorious constellation Orion to its west."
