Road reopens after partial collapse

A Devonshire road was reopened on Wednesday afternoon after being shut overnight due to subsidence.

Explaining how part of the surface at the junction of Middle Road and Corkscrew Hill collapsed, Alan Rance, CEO of Bermuda Waterworks said there was a break in the water mains.

"The water leak undermined the road, causing it to become dangerous for road users. Due to the close proximity of both water mains and electric cables, it was decided for safety reasons to wait for daylight to excavate the area and repair the leak and reinstate the road," he said.

This work was completed at around 2.30 p.m. Mr. Rance apologised to those who were inconvenienced by not being able to use Corkscrew Hill and to customers who had their service disrupted morning.
