ROLO to hold its first tag day next Friday

A charity set up to support the families and friends of road accident victims is to have its first tag day next Friday.

The community is being urged to join in the fundraiser on April 18, which coincides with the start of Road Safety Week.

ROLO — Remembering Our Loved Ones, was initiated by relatives of accident victims to provide comfort to grieving families and friends.

The group aims to set up a counselling service at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, with members on call to provide comfort in the aftermath of a fatal accident.

ROLO is also compiling a manual of practical advice for distribution among the community. It will feature contact numbers and advice, such as funeral parlour information and where families should go to obtain a death certificate or attend an inquest.

A National Day of Remembrance is also planned for the Fall, to commemorate all those who have died on Bermuda's roads in the past ten years.

Road Safety Officer Roxanne Christopher said: "ROLO is having its first-ever tag day to raise funds for its community programmes to help support the loved ones of victims of fatalities. They need help in order to help these families and to educate people to prevent these accidents from happening again."

Tag day volunteers will be located in Hamilton and St. George's Town Square between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on April 18.

ROLO — a sub-committee of the Road Safety Council, was founded last year and has more than 400 members. Anyone interested in becoming a member or volunteering should email: r.o.l.o@bermuda.com or telephone 336-ROLO.
