The turnout for Soup for the Soul–Phenomenal!
Homeless people were served up a treat by students and community volunteers at a festive affair last night.
The Phenomenal Women Association — founded by HOTT 107.5 DJ Miss Thang — organised Soup for the Soul next to the Jamaican Grill on Court Street in Hamilton.
Huge amounts of food — including soup, peas and rice, hot chocolate and cake of every variety — were dished out to the needy by smiling youngsters from CedarBridge Academy, Bermuda High School for Girls, the Berkeley Institute and Mount St. Agnes.
Volunteers from the community also spread festive cheer by giving goodie bags and toys to children and warm blankets to those who needed them.
Santa Claus paid a visit to Court Street for the occasion, telling children to be good before Christmas and dancing an energetic Cha Cha Slide with onlookers. Local singers also performed before an appearance from the Bermuda Regiment Band.
Miss Thang — whose real name is Kristy Burgess — said she was amazed and heartened at the number of volunteers and the amount of food and other items donated.
Those who could afford to pay for the food made donations, all of which will go to youngsters and seniors this Christmas.
