UBP shadow cabinet shuffled
United Bermuda Party leader Wayne Furbert has reshuffled his team following the resignation of Jamahl Simmons and Maxwell Burgess’s public call for Mr. Furbert to resign.
Deputy Leader Michael Dunkley takes over as Shadow Minister for Public Safety while Trevor Moniz loses the Attorney General brief to John Barritt but picks up Labour and Immigration.
Suzann Roberts-Holshouser takes on the new Social Rehabilitation portfolio after Government created the ministry late last year.
Meanwhile Senator Bob Richards becomes Shadow Minister for Telecommunications and Transport and Senator Gina Spence-Farmer becomes the new Shadow Minister for Community, Cultural Affairs and Race Relations.
Mr. Furbert said: “I am pleased to announce these changes because each of them strikes an excellent balance of experience, knowledge and personal interest.
“Michael, for example, has shown all of us that he is a voice for law and order in Bermuda.”
Mr. Furbert said he was particularly pleased to appoint Suzann Roberts-Holshouser as spokesman for Social Rehabilitation as she brought compassion and understanding for the problems people face, perhaps better than anyone in Parliament.
“She also brings to the table a tough, no-nonsense attitude that will be essential in challenging a government that has yet to bring about meaningful social improvements, let alone rehabilitation.”
