Volunteers sought for 'Soup for the Soul' night
Radio DJ Miss Thang will be dishing up soup for the homeless at an event on Court Street next month.
The HOTT 1075 presenter — whose real name is Kristy Burgess, and her Phenomenal Women Association have dubbed the festive affair Soup for the Soul.
Volunteers are needed to help give out the soup plus desserts and blankets to people on the streets and corporate sponsorship is also being sought.
The event is from 5.30 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5 in the car park next to the Jamaican Grill.
There will be performances from the Seventh Day Adventist choir, a guest speaker and a fun castle.
Penny Ingram, the association's public relations officer, urged people to get involved.
"The 2000 Census statistics showed that we have at least 40 homeless persons living amongst us in society," she said. "If we take into account inflation in our economy, and seven years later, we can triple that number very easily."
Anyone who can help should contact Ms Ingram on 278-8994 or email penny.ingram[AT]lancashiregroup.com.
