VRA to hold 'last meeting' tonight
The Voters' Rights Association will tonight hold its last public meeting before next month's General Election.
It comes after VRA leaders Stuart Hayward and Geoff Parker met the Parliamentary Registrar to discuss their concerns about the Island's list of voters.
The pair sent out a press release late last night, advising people that their confirmed place of residence matches the June 15 Parliamentary Register, which can be found in all post offices.
Those who have moved to a new address since June 15 have until Friday to reregister so that they can vote.
"Persons that have moved since June that have not or do not reregister before Friday may be challenged by the political party scrutineers when persons arrive to vote at the polling station," said the press release.
"They may be struck off the list altogether if existing and new challenges are made before Friday by political party scrutineers and members of the public."
Meanwhile, VRA has added its voice to those calling for a clean election campaign.
"VRA encourages factual discourse among candidates on the issues that affect the individual constituencies and the Island as a whole. Instead of name-calling and racial slurs, the people of this country expect a more mature and respectable attitude from our leaders. Under this current climate of division we do not need a deepening of this political rift just to win an election.
"Under such conditions the real issues never come to the front to be discussed and compared in a normal democratic society.
"Bermuda faces a huge range of internal and external challenges and we cannot evolve solutions with only half the people involved with a tiny few at the top pulling the strings to their particular tune. Under the current political climate of division, hate and distrust, created by many of the politicians, Bermuda and Bermudians lose no matter who wins the election."
Tonight's meeting takes place at Wesley Methodist Church Hall, Church Street, Hamilton, from 7.30 p.m.
