And he told Magistrates' Court this week that his pursuit of the thieves caused him to commit a number of motoring offences.

The 49-year-old St. George's man admitted dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

The incident happened on Sunday, March 28, when Police were carrying out routine checks along Mullet Bay Road.

Prosecutor, Sgt. Kenrick James said: "A cycle approaching the officers was signalled to stop. But the rider rode his bike straight at the officers causing them to leap out of the way.

"He continued driving and was followed by Police as he road up Wellington Hall Road, the wrong way up a one-way system.'' Fox leapt off the bike and ran away, but he was eventually caught by the officers.

Sgt. James said that Fox had previously been disqualified until January, 1994 for driving while impaired.

Fox, of Slippery Hill, said: "I realise that riding a motorcycle was a stupid thing to do. I was not thinking.

"Earlier that morning, I had heard that men had been seen in my fishing boat on Cooper's Island, in St. George's.

"They stole all my gear off the fishing boat. I did not bother about the Police. I was after the men. I am trying to run a business and then someone steals all my gear.

"I tried to tell the Police but they were only interested in the fact that I was off the road.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Fox $600, and banned him for three years.
