Kenneth Landy pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to assaulting his ex-girlfriend and causing her bodily harm and damaging her telephone.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James said Landy had arranged to meet her, the mother of his children, on the night of June 27 at her house. An argument broke out shortly after he arrived, Sgt. James said, and Landy reportedly yelled, "Okay I'll go, but not before I do what I should've a long time ago.'' He began wrestling with her and punched her in the face and around the shoulders causing several bruises, Sgt. James said.

When she told her children to call the Police, he ripped the phone out of the wall causing $160 worth of damage, Sgt. James said.

After Police arrested him later at his home, he told them "I lost my head,'' Sgt. James said.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis was going to order a social inquiry report, but when Sgt. James said the offence appeared to be "one-off'' he decided against it.

He fined him $600 for the assault and $150 for damaging the phone.

Landy said he had apologised to his ex-girlfriend and her family.
