Brown tells Wolves players to earn Cup final places

There are 11 places up for grabs in the Wolves team for the November 11 Martonmere Cup final.. .and coach Dennis Brown is throwing out a challenge to his players to secure places over the next two games.

Wolves' season reached a high recently when they advanced through to their first Martonmere final. But in their next two outings they drew 3-3 with Dandy Town in the league and then crashed out of the FA Cup to North Village.

It is inconsistency Brown wants to put right, and tonight at Somerset (kick-off 9.00 p.m.) against his former team, the Trojans, is a good time to start.

"What I'm really not pleased with at this time is the team's inconsistency, the overall game,'' said Brown.

"One game we'll look really good and make the right decisions and the next game we're not concentrating when I think we should be concentrating. That's my main concern, that guys are given jobs to do and are not fulfilling the obligations.'' Brown stressed he won't be afraid to make changes if that is what is required.

The squad is coming up to full strength with Leonard Hypolite and Nirobi Smith recently turning out for the first time this season while there is hope that the injured Mark (Beaver) Ray could also be back soon.

And if college students John Barry Nusum, Joey Rego and Khari Sharrieff are able to return for the Martonmere final, Brown will have plenty of selection options.

"I'm not afraid to drop guys and they know that,'' said Brown. "One thing that I stressed is that if they are not doing the job that I set out for them to do they will be pulled off.

"In the next week or so we are looking to have `Beaver' back as well so we are slowly getting back to full strength.'' Added the coach: "The players who are playing right now are not really guaranteed a place in the final. No one should be getting complacent.

"In the next two weeks it's a matter of guys making sure their performances guarantee that they are one of the names on the team sheet.'' Brown doesn't expect any favours from his former team who are chasing their first win.

"It's always tough up in Somerset,'' said the former Trojans captain. "I've done a lot for Somerset and I still get a lot of respect from the players and the fans.'' Brown feels Wolves are still a couple of seasons from being a championship team. But winning one of the knockout cups for the first time is well within their reach.

"In the next three to four years if they stay together and do the right things, both on and off the pitch, that they can be a force to reckon with,'' said Brown.

"I'm not going to put any pressure on them by saying they are going to win this or win that, but in the next three or four years when the college guys come back it will make them even stronger.'' The Trojans recently prevented Devonshire Colts from taking over top spot in the Premier Division, sharing the points in a 3-3 draw.

Before the Premier Division clash, Wolves Girls will meet Royals in a women's match tonight starting at 7.00 p.m.
