BVI chief minister praised
British Virgin Islands on the occasion of the death its chief minister.
The Hon. Levity Stout passed away last Sunday. He was 68. Sir John said Mr.
Stout was an active politician who led his country to the reforms that made them a successful Caribbean colony.
"I last saw him at the RIMS conference in California,'' the Premier said.
"He was full of zest and was the longest serving member of the legislature.'' Sir John also asked that congratulations be sent to the family of the late Mr.
Cyril (Bunny) Smith.
"He was a quiet role model,'' he said. "While he was around they watched Bunny. He always did things the right way.'' Opposition Leader Mr. Frederick Wade asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Mr. Michael Kevany, former chief executive officer of EXEL Insurance Ltd. He said Mr. Kevany was the head of a responsible organisation that set a good corporate example.
Dr. Ewart Brown was congratulated by Mr. Nelson Bascome on his recent birthday. Mr. Bascome also praised United Productions on its production of "Reality Street.'' Mr. Stanley Lowe congratulated the family of mother of the year Mrs. Pearl Laverne Trott.
Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Wayne Furbert asked that congratulations be sent to Mrs. Judith Hall Bean, the newly appointed director of Personnel Services, and Mr. Kymn Astwood, the new Registrar of Companies.
Ms Jennifer Smith asked that congratulations be sent to the Sandys Rotary Club who recently honoured West End teachers.
Education Minister the Hon. Clarence Terceira asked that congratulations be sent to Dame Marjorie Bean who celebrated a "very young'' 86th birthday recently.
Mr. David Allen asked that congratulations be sent to Mr. Hadlee Stevens who opened the Park View Plaza on North Street.
He congratulated Sonesta Beach Hotel management for its efforts to Bermudianise their staff.
Mrs. Grace Bell sent condolences to the family of the late Mrs. Charlotte Smith, mother of Clerk to the House of Assembly Mr. James Smith.
She also sent condolences to the family of the late Mr. Ivan (Sheik) Smith, a former sergeant major in the Bermuda Militia Artillery.
Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams asked that congratulations be sent to Dr. Gerry Swan who recently qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon.
