David W. Telford, 37, of Berkeley Road, Pembroke, was also disqualified from driving for another two years.

And he was told to pay overdue fines of $500 by the end of the month or go to prison for 50 days.

Telford pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and failing to stop for Police in Hamilton and Pembroke on May 6.

The Wor. Cheryl Ann Mapp fined Telford $500 on each of the first two charges and $100 on the third.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James said Police saw Telford stopped at Elliott and Court Streets on a Yamaha 100 at 2.40 a.m. on May 6.

When Police approached he took off along Union Street and headed for Blackwatch Pass and North Shore Road. He went through four stop signs before Police finally pulled him over on North Shore, Sgt. James said.

Police discovered that Telford was disqualified from driving and there was a warrant for his arrest for unpaid fines, he said.

"I had received a phone call from my girlfriend about my son -- he was sick,'' Telford told the court. "She had found out he had problems with his heart and she was distraught.

"She wanted me to come and visit her. I felt compelled to go and comfort her.'' But Mrs. Mapp said Telford could have made arrangements to travel if it was a genuine emergency.

Instead, "you led the officer on this ridiculous chase'', endangering himself, the Police and the general public, she said.

"I have no time for people who just continuously ignore the orders of the court, for whatever reason,'' she said.
