Couple escape after car smashes into their house
ERROR RG P4 31.12.1996 Mr. Dennis J. Landy, owner of D.L.'s Construction, who lives in Old Spice Grove, Warwick, would like to make it clear he is not the Dennis Landy referred to in the recent front page story in The Royal Gazette about a car smashing through the wall of a house in Parsons Road, Pembroke.
A sleeping couple had a Christmas Eve miracle escape after a car smashed through the wall of their home.
And Dennis Landy and Brenda Clarke said if the car had struck a few yards down the house, they could have been killed.
Mr. Landy said: "If it had come through the front of the house instead of the end, it would have ended up in our bedroom.
"It could have killed us, but it didn't go that way. I'm just glad nobody in the car was badly hurt either.'' Ms Clark and Mr. Lundy were asleep in their home at 31 Parsons Road, Pembroke, when a white Volkswagen Golf hatchback crashed through a wall at around 3.30 a.m on Tuesday.
The car demolished the wall of an unoccupied office area and stopped against an interior wall and door.
Mr. Landy said: "We were asleep and we just heard a boom -- then the girl in the apartment came in and said there was a car in the house. It was unbelievable.'' Ms Clark added: "It was terrifying -- it scared the hell out of me.'' The VW, driven by Jevon Welsh, 23, was travelling along Parsons Road when the driver apparently lost control, mounted the pavement and hit the house.
Firefighters joined Police at the scene and helped free the injured people from the car, which was a write-off.
The passengers were rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but all suffered only minor injuries.
Car passenger Shaun Leakki, 25, of Pembroke, suffered back and elbow injuries and was released from the hospital after treatment. Mr. Welsh, of Devonshire, suffered chest and back injuries but was discharged after treatment.
Another passenger, Ricardo Nisbett, 22, of Devonshire, was also allowed home after treatment for neck and back injuries.
And a woman passenger, Selina Flood, 24, of Pembroke, was uninjured.
Yesterday the roof of the wrecked room was supported by steel girders to stop it collapsing.
A Police spokesman said inquiries into the accident are continuing.
Anyone with information which could help the crash investigation should contact Hamilton Police on 295-0011.
The spokesman added information can also be given anonymously by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline on 1-800-623-8477.
Police arrested a man on suspicion of drink driving -- just after he was released from hospital following an accident.
At about 7.15 p.m. on Christmas Eve Police and ambulance crews were called to Middle Road, near Longford Hill, after reports of a single car accident.
According to the Police the car, a white Mitsubishi Lancer, was travelling west on Middle Road when the driver lost control and collided with a wall. The car flipped over and came to rest in the middle of the road.
Both Police and ambulance went to the scene and the 44-year-old driver, from Southampton, was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but was not suffering any injuries and was immediately released.
A Police spokesman said: "Police, however, promptly arrested the man for suspicion of driving whilst impaired.
"He was tested, detained and later bailed. The car had extensive damage and is likely a write-off.''
