Elderly widow still searching for apartment
public to help her.
Telvina Simons, 66, renewed her plea after failing to find accommodation for herself, her son and her dog who have been told to move out of the dilapidated Smith's Parish church cottage where they presently reside.
St. Mark's Church sent a letter to Mrs. Simons on New Year's Eve asking her to vacate the property by January 31.
In March, The Royal Gazette reported on Mrs. Simons' need for assistance. But as of this week she had still not found anywhere to live. The church has continued to extend the eviction deadline and has stated it will not put the widow out in the street.
She has since been joined in her search by St. Mark's Church minister Father Robert Thacker and other church wardens who want her to move out of the two-bedroom cottage because it is unfit to live in and needs much work done on it.
Renovations will not begin with the Simons in the cottage as it would prove dangerous to them and the workers.
Mrs. Simons said she needs a one- or two-bedroom place and is willing to pay up to $1,500 a month. She can be reached on 236-3646 or 234-0732 and Father Thacker can be reached on 236-8360.
