Els to be given chance to defend Grand Slam title

South African Ernie Els could be back in Bermuda to defend his Grand Slam title.

Ernie Els will be given the chance to defend his PGA Grand Slam of Golf title in Bermuda if one of this year's major winners decides not to come.In an historic first, the event will offer its defending champion number one alternate status.Previously invitations have been sent out to past major winners, however this time around the PGA has decided to change the format."The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is a special reward to a major champion, and an event that few players in the game have experienced," said PGA of America president Allen Wronowski."We are pleased to give our Champion of Champions, should the opportunity arise, the opportunity to defend his title in the season's premier foursome."
