For the past two years the Emancipation Service has been held in St. George's, but Community Affairs Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons hopes the new location will give more people an opportunity to enjoy the service.

The service is a remembrance and commemoration of August 1, 1834 -- the day when slavery was abolished in Bermuda and a time which became the Cup Match holiday.

Part of the original emancipation sermon will be read by the clergy, and the National Dance Theatre will perform a dance portraying the life of Mary Prince, a former slave.

There will also be performances by the Miracle Temple Choir and the AME Senior Choir.

The event takes place at 8 p.m. on July 24 in front of the Clocktower.
