Ewart Brown slams Gazette coverage of drugs saga
Ewart Brown said many in Bermuda would be left with egg on their face over the Under-23 soccer players drugs case.
"What makes us so quick to condemn?'' he asked.
And he criticised the The Royal Gazette for capitalising on the story. But he had words of praise for the players' lawyer Mr. H. T. Smith who showed backbone, confident the players would be cleared.
Deputy Leader & Shadow Minister of Management & Technology Ms Jennifer Smith took issue with Government colour brochures on restructuring the school system. She said the money should have been spent on schools. Instead, Government needed to talk to parents "face to face''.
"I don't want to see everyone take their child out of the system,'' she said.
"I want to see a public education system so good that no one would want to put their child in private education.'' In a final address, Shadow Minister of Health Social Services & Housing Mr.
Nelson Bascome pointed out that the large number of black prisoners was disproportionate to the population.
This week, a young white Bermudian had received minimal punishment in the courts compared with a black Bermudian, he claimed.
"Our young people are watching and reading,'' Mr. Bascome said. "There is still a disparity in our justice system.''
