Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told Senior Magistrate, the Wor. Will Francis that on the afternoon of April 2, Richard Leroy Brangman, 37, of Coral Hill Lane, called Police to tell them that a "white woman was being raped'' in his yard.

Investigations revealed that the story was false, and that Brangman had placed the call because an earlier call to Police had not been answered immediately.

"Brangman had called Police earlier because someone had left a boat in his yard and wouldn't remove it,'' Insp. Duffy said.

Brangman told Mr. Francis that the boat owner was in his yard, and was threatening him and his pregnant wife.

"He was threatening us with a stick, and I called the Police. They said there was nothing that they could do. So I called them back and told them that a woman was being assaulted in my yard, and they were there before I put the phone down.'' Mr. Francis replied: "The Police are very busy, and cannot just drop what they are doing. They have to cover the whole Island and there are things that they have to deal with right away. You could have just gone inside, and then when the Police showed up later, given them the man's details.''
