Good behaviour pays at Warwick Academy

Warwick Academy's best behaved students are $100 richer after getting the highest marks in its Positive Discipline scheme.

The school and the Bank of Bermuda jointly announced this week that more than 40 students will each receive a $100 deposit in a savings account for good behaviour.

School Principal Robert Lennox said: "We are grateful to the Bank for supporting this programme. The early indications are good -- and we can improve the scheme even further.'' The scheme was introduced by Mr. Lennox this year to encourage students to do their best at all times -- in the academic sphere and elsewhere.

All positive efforts are logged and rewarded through ongoing commendations for good work, effort, and service to the school and community.

Good classroom performance is rewarded in each lesson with an R for Reward.

Students who accumulate 15 and 30 Rs receive bronze and silver certificates respectively.

Students who earn 60 Rs get gold certificates while 90 Rs earn Diplomas of Excellence.

In January, shortly after starting the scheme, Mr. Lennox said students with the most diplomas would get "Special Awards''.

Mr. Lennox did not specify what the special awards were at a January 13 meeting of Hamilton Rotary.

Manager of the Charitable Trust at the Bank of Bermuda, David Lang said: "The Charitable Trust is delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile programme.'' Mr. Lang added that encouraging positive discipline among youth can only reap future benefits for the students and the community.
