Hamilton gets a new nightclub
Street has been given the green light by the Planning Department.
The Development Applications Board granted conditional approval to a proposal by Mr. Nelson Hunt, of Hunt's Sanitation Services, to open a multi-purpose "entertainment centre'' on the lower level of Number Six Shed in Hamilton.
Mr. Hunt filed his application on March 1.
The Board's conditions were mainly concerned with the control of noise. In granting approval, it stated that "no amplified music (be) played on the upstairs terrace at any time'' and that "all windows shall be shut'' when amplified music is played inside the building.
Known tentatively as The Embassy Club, the facility will showcase Bermudian entertainers and is expected to inject what many feel is some much-needed energy into local nightlife.
The Board's only other condition was that Mr. Hunt apply for a separate building permit before construction begins. The approval the Board granted was for "planning permission only.'' The Board also "advised'' that all food preparation areas "comply with the requirements of the Public Health (Food) Regulations 1950'' and that "the existing planters on (the) upstairs terrace shall be maintained.'' Mr. Roger Sherratt, Secretary of the Corporation of Hamilton, said the Corporation "fully endorses the Planning Department's conditions.'' At the same time, he said: "We're very pleased that (Mr. Hunt) has been granted approval.''
