The 42-year-old man was walking along a plank across the top of an unfinished water tank when he fell inside along with a wheelbarrow full of cement, Police said yesterday.

The accident happened just after 1.30 p.m. on Saturday at the rear of a private house on East Avenue in Southampton, a spokesman said.

The man suffered a leg injury and scrapes to his head.

The Bermuda Fire Service rescued the man, who was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He remained there overnight for treatment.

Police reported a large number of accidents on Saturday, many involving livery cycles. But for the most part, injuries were limited to road rash.

Two visitors from Pennsylvania were treated at hospital after they lost control of their livery cycle at the top of Flatts Hill at about 3.15 p.m. on Saturday.

Fifteen minutes earlier, a couple from New Jersey crashed a livery cycle at South Road and Horseshoe Bay beach.

At noon on Saturday, a visitor and a local crashed their cycles on Front Street just west of the birdcage.

On Saturday night, the Bermuda Fire Service helped prevent a 46-foot boat from sinking at Flatts after it took on about two feet of water. Firefighters were called to pump out the Bright Side just after 10 p.

The Fire Service also put out several brush fires. Lumber was burning at Happy Valley Road and Curving Avenue at 1.17 a.m. on Saturday, while three palm trees were burning across from Pembroke Rest Home at 4.43 a.m. on Saturday. At 4.35 a.m. yesterday, the Fire Service put out another brush fire on Berkeley Hill in Pembroke.
