House congratulates Sir Henry Vesey on his birthday

Mrs. Browne Evans said she had spoken to Sir Henry this week, and they had sent each other good wishes.

"He appeared to be in very good health,'' she added.

Transport Minister the Hon. Maxwell Burgess congratulated both Sir Henry and Mrs. Browne Evans on their anniversaries.

On a sadder note, MPs expressed regret over the deaths of Mr. Eric (Buster) Young and Mr. Alfred Lee Hinson.

Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness described Mr. Young and Mr. Hinson as "wonderful Bermudians''.

He said Mr. Young was a great sportsman in his youth, while Mr. Hinson was an "outstanding painter'' who made an enormous contribution to the community.

Letters of condolences are also to be sent to the family of the late Mr. John Triscott Scott.

Deputy Premier the Hon. Irving Pearman said Mr. Scott was a popular musician.

The Opposition's Special Assistant Management and Technology Mr. Walter Lister said Mr. Scott was a role model in the Somerset community.

"He was a strong believer in family values.'' Opposition leader Mr. Frederick Wade pointed out Mr. Scott played the clarinet, like himself, and was a superb carpenter.

Another member of the community whose death brought expressions of regret was Ms Helen Louise Kirkland.

Government backbenchers The Hon. Harry Soares and Mr. Tim Smith both remembered her fondly.

On a happier note, Shadow Education Minister Ms Jennifer Smith' paid tribute to St. Mark's Church vestry for raising funds for Whitney Institute to help young people.

Education Minister the Hon. Clarence Terceira , meanwhile, asked for a letter of congratulations to be sent to the Young Enterprise Group and the Education Planning Team which had done an "exceptional job''.

Shadow Minister of Community Affairs and Culture Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams applauded Mr. Beau Evans and Mr. Stephen McKey, saying Bermudians and visitors would benefit from their hard work in building a boat in St. George's.

And Shadow Transport Minister Mr. Dennis Lister had words of praise for Mr.

Walter Lister who had reached the 25-year mark in running a successful business.

For his part, Shadow Health Minister Mr. Nelson Bascome told how impressed he had been by the play "Drums of Passion'', which was based on Bermuda's Gombeys.

And he congratulated Duncan Simons for his success in the Heritage Day cycle race.

The Somerset Bridge Recreation Club's Family Day also came in for applause.

Mr. Roberts said the organisers should be congratulated.

Shadow Youth and Sport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown , meanwhile, urged MPs to recognise the achievements of Kavin Smith and Maria Conroy Haydon in the May 24 Marathon Derby.

A letter of thanks should also be sent to the organisers of the event, he said.
