An Island-wide search continued yesterday for escapee Brian Rogers, with Flatts Village and Spanish Point forming parts of the trail.

Rogers, 32, escaped from the Prison Farm at Ferry Reach in St. George's just after 9 p.m. on Thursday and has remained at large.

He was serving a 10-year term for offences including burglary, assault, sexual assault, and deprivation of liberty. A former Police officer has described him as "potentially very dangerous''.

Just before 7 p.m. yesterday, Police found abandoned in Flatts the red Subaru car they believed he stole from Stokes Point Road in St. George's on Thursday night.

Earlier in the afternoon, Rogers was a suspect in a break-in to a residence in the Spanish Point area. Nothing was believed stolen.

Described as six feet, one inch tall and about 200 pounds, Rogers has light brown skin.

"There have been several unconfirmed sightings around the Island,'' said Police spokesman P.c. Garry Venning. "We would ask the public Island-wide to be extremely vigilant, as this man must be caught at the earliest opportunity.

"Under no circumstances should the public approach him, or attempt to apprehend him.'' Rogers escaped from an extra-security holding room at the low-security prison by bending a window's bars and jumping through, Prison Commissioner Mr. Edward Dyer said.

He had served two years of a 10-year sentence handed down in Supreme Court in February of 1991 after he pleaded guilty to beating, sexually assaulting, and threatening the life of his girlfriend, deprivation of liberty, and receiving thousands of dollars worth of stolen property.

Thursday night's assault and robbery in Ferry Reach was not linked to the escapee, because it was reported about two hours before Rogers was at large, Police said.

A Ferry Reach resident said he was returning home shortly after 7 p.m. when he was attacked as he walked up the stairs to his house. A briefcase which he claimed contained about $50,000 in cash was stolen. The 50-year-old was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with head injuries.
