This week the Attorney General's chambers hit DeFontes Broadcasting Television Ltd. and Freeport Gardens Bingo organiser Mr. Neil Inchcup with a writ. The writ followed a Police investigation into TV bingo and possible breaches of Bermuda's laws against gambling and lotteries.

Mr. DeFontes said VSB planned to continue holding TV bingo. "We haven't been found guilty by a court of committing any offence, have we?'' Mr. DeFontes also wondered why a writ had not been served on Bermuda Broadcasting Company for holding bingo at Southampton Rangers.

Freeport lawyer Mr. Richard Hector also pledged yesterday: "There will be TV bingo on Saturday.

"It is my understanding there has been no injunction and no court proceedings saying bingo can't be played.'' Mr. Hector, who believes bingo is legal, said he was "puzzled'' why Freeport Gardens Bingo had been singled out.

Crown Counsel Mr. Peter DeJulio said the AG's chambers had filed a "statement of claim'' to attempt to stop DeFontes Broadcasting Television Limited from airing bingo on Saturday nights or in Dockyard. He confirmed his office would be applying for an injunction at a separate hearing.
