The round saw the elimination of all local players except Margie Way and Jean Bath, competing on the Barrett team. They were drawn against an all-Mexican women's squad for a spot in the semi-finals.

Wednesday night also featured the first session of the Flighted Open pairs and at the mid-way point the leaders were Edith Rosenkranz and Eddie Wold (flight A), Mary Fran Grile and Rose Harris (flight B) and locals David and Sally Sykes (flight C).

Several local pairs were still in contention in all flights going into yesterday's final session.

The featured event on Wednesday was the HS&JE Crisson pairs, won by Maria Moore and Marta Vigneaux. Mary Fran Grile and Rose Harris were second.

Local section placings Flight A: Joe Wakefield, Bill Tucker.

First flight B: Jack Rhind and David Cordon.

Second flight B: Eddie Kyme and Stephanie Wilks, Ruby Douglas.

First flight C: David and Sally Sykes, Sheena Rayner.

Second flight C: Pat Riding and Pat Hayward, John Hoskins and Malcom Simmons.

Tuesday night saw the completion of the featured event of the tournament, the Stratified Pairs, with last year's Stratum A winners, Tom and Rosemarie Goodwin of Maine repeating as champions.

In second place were regulars Russ and Sheila Ekeblad of Rhode Island with Beth Englehart and Mark Molson a close third.

In Stratum B the winners were overnight leaders Ellen Anten and Elaine Blaustein with Miriam and Maynard Greenberf from Oklahoma in second and Linda and Jack Schechter of Michigan third.

The event is set up whereby players enter in the Stratum appropriate to their skills, but compete against everyone so that Stratum C players can win their event, but if they play well enough they can also place or win in A and B.

Similarly, Stratum B players can win their event and also place or win in A.

Due to the structure, Stratum C was also won by Arten and Blaustein with local pair Harry Kast and Kate Ellson in second and Miriam Uni-Karp and M. Nucefora in third.

The afternoon game, the Trimingham Pairs, was won by Gail and Mary Carns from Pennsylvania with Patricia Capriott and John Ertel in second.
