The Haven, off Berkeley Road in Pembroke, is being reclaimed by Government to erect a new Berkeley Institute.

Chairman of Berkeley's Board of Governors, Calvin White, shed no light on what will happen to the existing structure, saying only that "nothing has been decided''.

The school is scheduled to build a new state-of-the-art senior school on the former Ridgeway property, where The Haven is currently located, by 2002.

But the groundbreaking was delayed from this spring to late this year due to talks over the fate of Berkeley's current buildings.

The Berkeley Education Society, which owns the buildings, is in talks with Government over the issue.

Meanwhile, The Royal Gazette has learned that Bayview -- the old Commissioner's House near Fort Hamilton -- will be the new accommodation for pregnant teens.

Bayview is larger than The Haven and is currently under renovation in preparation for the new residents. Completion of the repairs and improvements is expected before the end of summer.
