The Hon. Maxwell Burgess was joined by Opposition Sen. Ira Phillip on Wednesday, who said Bermuda had lost one of its outstanding citizens and a master builder.

Sen. Jerome Dill (UBP) congratulated sailors in the Marion-Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race, including Mr. Kirk Cooper whose yacht Alphida broke the time elapsed record.

He thought it a notable accomplishment considering Mr. Cooper developed serious health problems in his last Marion crossiong.

Sen. Dill was joined by Sen. Wendell Hollis (UBP) in praising Mrs. Deborah Jean Jones, co-founder of the Bermuda Diabetic Association, for her work coordinating the Associations' activities for 12 years. Mrs. Jones is Senator Hollis' sister.

Sen. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) also praised the Marion racers, particularly the first-ever, all-black Bermudian crew aboard the yacht Scheherazade . She was skippered by Mr. Leslie Swan.

Sen. Joe Johnson (Ind) praised Mr. Buddy Rego aboard Tsunami which won the best in Class A on corrected time and Mr. Paul Hubbard aboard Tonka , which won top honours as the leading Bermuda boat on corrected time.

Sports Minister the Hon. Pamela Gordon praised young golfers Duncan Zelkin and Kim Marshall for their victories in the Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championship.

Senate president the Hon. Albert Jackson asked that congratulations be sent to Mr. Albert Benjamin and Mrs. Georgine Hill for being made Members of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
