25th anniversary of the Constitution of Bermuda.

The service at the Bermuda Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is expected to bring around 60 parliamentarians and representatives of seven different denominations will participate.

The service will follow a joint session of the Senate and the House of Assembly. They will leave the Sessions House and walk together to the Cathedral.

A Government spokesman said: "In November 1966 a delegation from Bermuda went to London for a conference with the United Kingdom Government on constitution reform for Bermuda.

"It included his Excellency the Governor Lord Martonmere as well as Members of Parliament from the United Bermuda Party, the Progressive Labour Party and independents.

"The outcome was the Constitution of Bermuda which came into effect on June 8, 1968.'' Chairman of the 25th Anniversary Committee, The Hon. Sir John Plowman, who attended the constitutional conference as an advisor, said: "The change to responsible government from representative government after more than 300 years was a major milestone for Bermuda.

"It is fitting that we observe this 25th anniversary with a service of thanksgiving.'' Other events during the year are planned to mark the anniversary.
