Stadium, come rain or shine.

The forecast looks good for Bermuda's first Drug Awareness Day, with the motto "Living Clean, Living Free''.

But project chairman Sgt. John Dale believes people will turn out to show the strength of their feelings against drugs whatever the weather.

Sgt. Dale is hoping Bermuda can lead the world in its fight to completely eradicate illegal drugs.

And those who do turn up at the National Stadium will be entertained by musicians and comedians including celebrity guests reggae stars Red Fox and Maxi Priest.

The event gets underway at noon with Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Jerome Dill making an opening speech. It will be followed by a performance by singer Pinky Steede.

Other speakers include Shadow Environment Minister the Rev. Trevor Woolridge, Minister of Youth and Sport the Hon. Pamela Gordon, Pastor Clarke Minors, Shadow Health Minister Mr. Nelson Bascome, Addiction Services co-ordinator Mr.

Bryant Richards, Dr. Vincent Bridgewater, UBP MP Mr. Trevor Moniz, Mr. and Mrs. Graham Furbert of STAR and National Drug Commission steering committee chairman Mr. Alastair MacDonald.

Entertainment includes Tony Brannon, Legacy, Destiny, Jahstice, Carol-Ann Williams and Lady Tyson, Mr. and Mrs. Kingsley Swan, Empress Mennan Dancers and the Gombeys will finish the day off.

A skit of the Youth to Youth group will also be presented by Mr. Mark Telemaque.

Side attractions include a canine drug display, a visual narcotics display, a display of emergency rescue equipment by the Bermuda Fire Service and a Police motorcycle.

Sgt. Dale said: "The speakers will have 10 minutes each and the entertainers 20 minutes.

"Even if it is pouring with rain the show will go on. We are expecting thousands to turn up on the day. We have been meeting since the beginning of September and the publicity has been on the TV, radio and in the newspapers since December.

"I have been inundated with people calling me, committing themselves to this.

Many groups and organisations are against drugs but now we will be able to see just how many are concerned about Bermuda's problem.

"This will be an opportunity for all people concerned with drugs to see that they are not alone.'' Sgt. Dale said he hoped people will not forget the messages they hear. He said: "I hope they will become more aware and that every single person can help towards eradicating illicit drugs from our society.

"It is not impossible. We could be a leading example to the rest of the world.'' The day will begin at 9.50 a.m. with a prayer delivered by Bishop of Bermuda the Rt. Rev. William Down.

Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan will then start a five-kilometre walk starting and ending at the Stadium.

Sgt. Dale reported that a number of "Living Clean, Living Free'' T-shirts are still available.
