Man used cheque to buy motorcycle
months probation this week day after he admitted stealing a cheque and using it to buy a motorcycle.
Harry Walter Moniz, of Slippery Hill, admitted at an earlier Magistrates' Court appearance that he stole four cheques between March 28 and 31 from a woman he worked for and lived with.
After getting an unidentified woman to fill out one of the cheques, Moniz asked his sister to use it to purchase a motor cycle from Dowling's Cycles in St. George's.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis sentenced Moniz to 80 hours community service for stealing the cheques and 12 months probation for the forging offences.
NAME NEEDED FOR NEW SCHOOL ED Name needed for new school As the St. George's Secondary School prepares to move to its new location on the former US Naval Air Station the search for a new school name has begun.
The Department of Education is asking St. George's residents and businesses to help name the new designated middle school which is scheduled to open in September.
Those interested in taking part in the hunt for a name are asked to give their suggestions to the department by August 11.

Police saw 27-year-old Troy Williams of King Street, Hamilton, drinking something hidden in a brown paper bag on Front Street on July 14, Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale told Magistrates' Court.
When Williams saw the officers approaching him, he shoved the bottle -- which contained beer -- into his trousers, Sgt. Dale added.
The Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp granted him a 12-month conditional discharge and warned him not to drink in public.
AI TO HOLD CONCERT ENT AI to hold concert Amnesty International Bermuda will be holding an evening of music and dramatic reading tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Victoria Park, Hamilton.
The free event is part of AI's 1995 Women's Campaign which is focusing on human rights violations including the murder, torture, rape and detention of ten different women from around the world.
The evening is intended to "enlighten people about the ongoing struggle for women's human rights and to bring the joy of live performance to all who attend''.

DEADLINE NEARS AWD Deadline nears Police have reminded the public that there are fewer than two weeks left to submit nominees for its Outstanding Youth Awards.
Nominations are due by July 31.
Police said nominees must be between the ages of 16 and 25.
Entry forms are available from any Police Station and Post Office around the Island.
