the mysterious departure of its restaurant manager.

Mr. Valerio Ausenda, the man accused of making a racial slur to other members of staff, was no longer at the hotel yesterday.

His departure comes just weeks after his work permit was extended by the Immigration Department.

Bermuda Industrial Union President Mr. Ottiwell Simmons, whose members complained of Mr. Ausenda's behaviour, knew little of the situation last night.

Complaints about Mr. Ausenda were first made by Shadow Home Affairs Minister Mr. Alex Scott.

Last month Home Affairs Minister the Hon. Irving Pearman announced a year's extension to Mr. Ausenda's work permit, but said a Bermudian would then replace him.

Grotto Bay resident manager Mr. Clyde Darrell said: "I can confirm that he has left the hotel but that is all I can say.''
