Fourteen-year-old Serena Brangman was picked up on Wednesday afternoon by Community and Juvenile Services. And Kris Darrell, 13, was spotted by a member of the public yesterday afternoon.

Both girls were safely returned to the home.

DEVONSHIRE MAN STABS SELF TO DEATH OBT Devonshire man stabs self to death A man stabbed himself to death after a domestic dispute.

The news came after Police said there was no evidence of foul play in the death of 54-year-old Leslie Hutton.

Mr. Hutton was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after Police were called to the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

But he died of medical complications despite frantic attempts by surgeons to save him.

A Police spokeswoman said Police were called to Mr. Hutton's condominium home on Devon Spring Road, Devonshire, around 4.30 p.m.

They discovered Mr. Hutton with a single stab wound to his chest -- sustained following a domestic dispute.

Mr. Hutton is survived by five children -- four daughters and a son, four grandchildren, two sisters, a brother and his father.

His funeral will be at Peace Lutheran Church in Paget tomorrow.

COLLEGE TO PREVIEW TECHNICAL CENTRE EDC College to preview technical centre Bermuda College will open the doors of its Technical Education Centre to the public next week.

Parents, prospective students, and others interested in careers in technical education have been invited to attend the open house from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Applied Studies Division of the college.

The Applied Studies Division offers an Associate Degree in electronics and Certificate programmes in refrigeration and air conditioning, telecommunications and electronics, motor vehicle mechanics, motor vehicle bodywork, wood trades, and plumbing.

CONCESSION STALL EARNS DAB OKAY PLN Concession stall earns DAB okay Planning officials have given the go-ahead to an application for a concession stall.

William Trott applied for retroactive permission for the stall, built for rental, on Cricket Lane, Sandys.

The Development Applications Board approved the application although they pointed out that a licence had to be obtained before any food could be sold.

DAB members also agreed that in order to "safeguard the amenity of the neighbourhood'' permission will only be granted until April 30 1999 unless the DAB grants an extension.

GROUPS ASKED TO MARK FAMILY DAY CLB GVT Groups asked to mark Family Day Groups around Bermuda are being asked to organise events to celebrate the Day of the Family.

The Department of Child and Family Services has written to organisations asking them to plan an event, activity or programme that promotes and celebrates "the significance of the family in our community''.

Day of the Family is on May 15 and was set up after the United Nations decreed 1994 as the Year of the Family.

QUICK-THINKING GASMAS DOUSES FIRE FIR Quick-thinking gasman douses fire Quick-thinking Ronald Trott put out a truck blaze Wednesday at the Esso station in Richmond Road.

Mr. Trott, the station supervisor, grabbed a fire extinguisher to spray flames leaping from the engine amid fears petrol fumes could cause an explosion.

He then helped finish the job with a bucket of water as firemen arrived at about 10.30 a.m.

"There were seven or eight inch flames,'' Mr. Trott told The Royal Gazette .

The truck is believed to have pulled into the station after the driver detected smoke.

MAN IS CHARGED WITH NEGLECTING CHILD CTS Man is charged with neglecting child A 28-year-old Smith's Parish man was yesterday charged in Magistrates' Court with not giving proper protection and guidance to a child.

The man denied wilfully contributing to a 14-year-old girl becoming a child in need of care, protection or control by exposing that child to moral danger and not giving such care, protection and guidance as should be expected to be given.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis adjourned the case for mention on May 16 and granted Darrell bail in the sum of $500.

SWING BRIDGE IS BACK IN OPERATION TRA Swing Bridge is back in operation The Swing Bridge is now back in operation following the repair of mechanical problems which forced it to close to marine traffic.

The Ministry of Works and Engineering announced last week that the bridge had been crippled by severe mechanical problems and was closed to marine traffic until further notice.

Delays to traffic were caused on Monday when the bridge failed to close properly while being tested and had to be hand cranked shut.

VISITOR PUSHED TO GROUND AND ROBBED CRM Visitor pushed to ground and robbed A visitor was pushed to the ground and robbed of his wallet in Pembroke early Wednesday morning.

The man told Police he was walking in Barr's Bay Park at about 1 a.m. when a man approached him asking for money.

He refused and was pushed to the ground. He received a gash to his head and his wallet was taken by the man who ran away.

The visitor returned to his hotel and called the Police with a description.

The Police have arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the robbery and their investigations are continuing.

THIEF RUNS OFF WITH VISITOR'S HANDBAG CRM Thief runs off with visitor's handbag A thief ran off with a visitor's handbag after she left it in an unattended golf court at Belmont Golf Course.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said the incident occurred around noon on Wednesday.

The visitor was at the fifth hole, some ten feet away from the cart, when she noticed a man standing in front of it.

Mrs. James Barnett said at that point the man ran off and the woman went to the cart and noticed that her handbag was missing.

The man had dreadlocks, was about five-feet, seven-inches tall and between 20 and 30 years old.

He was wearing a black and white striped, silky sweat top and a pair of track pants.
