The hunt was launched a day after Government announced their plans to tackle the escalating issue of youth violence.

Yesterday The Royal Gazette revealed that senior Government ministers were preparing to take on the problems of youth violence by organising a national conference for young people.

Home Affairs Minister Quinton Edness said hundreds of youngsters would be invited to a huge forum later this year.

But the forthcoming summit will not be a first for the Island. In 1993 young people were given an opportunity to let the country know their concerns and hopes at Bermuda's first-ever Youth Summit held at Fort Hamilton.

The brainchild of the Bermuda Broadcasting Company's Rick Richardson, the gathering was organised to help initiate a positive dialogue with youth.

Students from various schools were asked to compile "proclamations'' listing the issues they felt were most important to them, and give recommendations.

At the time, the overwhelming concern of the Island's young was the state of the Government education system. Then Premier Sir John Swan and Youth, Sport and Recreation Minister Sen. Pamela Gordon were presented with duplicate copies of each school's submission.

Yesterday, Government Information Service assistant director Valerie Pethen said the Ministry of Youth, Development, Sport and Recreation was investigating what happened to the recommendations and if they were acted upon. Youth and Sport director Brenton Roberts pointed out that the ministry currently sponsored two TV programmes, Youth Talk and Fast Forward, which allowed young people to air their views and concerns.
