Poll results next week
be released this week.
But Bank of Butterfield chairman and former Premier the Hon. Sir David Gibbons said they would not be made public.
"It is an internal survey,'' he said.
The telephone poll was carried out by New York-based Penn and Schoen, for the Bank of Butterfield and the Bank of Bermuda.
"I believe it was completed 10 days ago, and Penn and Schoen are now proceeding with tabulation,'' said Sir David yesterday.
"This usually takes 10 days or two weeks, and so I expect the results will be out sometime next week.'' Among the questions asked in the poll were: Are you in favour of Independence? How did you vote at the last election? If certain MPs support Independence, would that influence your decision? Do you need more education on Independence? and Do you think Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan is doing a good job? Yesterday, Sir David stressed the survey was not political "in any way, shape or form'' The purpose of the poll was to focus on the financial aspects of Independence, and find out bank customers' areas of concern.
