tabled in the House of Assembly on Friday, Deputy Premier the Hon. Irving Pearman said yesterday.

And while Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan could not be reached for comment yesterday, a date for the referendum is expected to be announced no later than Friday.

The United Bermuda Party caucus met on Friday and Saturday to work on the position papers, and at least one more extraordinary caucus meeting is likely to be called this week.

The United Bermuda Party caucus first saw the position papers on Thursday.

With the Premier saying he wants the papers ready before he will name a referendum date, there is pressure on caucus members to deal with the papers quickly in response to demands from the business community for an early vote.

Government's positions on a wide range of issues related to Independence will be put together in a single package, Mr. Pearman said. "Every aspect is being covered,'' he said.

And if new issues or questions are raised after the papers are tabled, Government would respond to those as well, he said.

Mr. Pearman's Cabinet committee that wrote Government's Green Paper on Independence is staying in place to handle such issues, right up to the time of the referendum, expected in July or August.

The Opposition Progressive Labour Party is calling on its supporters to boycott the referendum.
