Primary schoolers go online
from a major telephone company.
Cable and Wireless is sponsoring connections to the Internet for all Government primary schools.
The sponsorship was launched at Dellwood Primary school on Friday where Deputy Premier and Education Minister Jerome Dill saw first hand how far the Net can be spread.
John Tibbles, Cable & Wireless' general manager, was also at the launch and said: "We are very pleased to be able to sponsor this initiative. We congratulate Mr. Dill and the Department of Education on its continuing programme of integrating computer technology into all levels of Bermuda's school system.'' He added: "It is upon Bermuda's school leavers that we, as Bermuda's international telephone company, rely for our engineers, technicians and managers of the future.
"Computer skills are and will continue to be key in the selection of Bermudians needed to run this company and there is no better age at which to start inculcating these skills than with the very young.''
