And later someone apparently muttered: "I am talking with the mike off.'' Now the president of DeFontes Broadcasting, which runs VSB, has launched an investigation.

Mr. Kenneth DeFontes said he had not heard about any foul language. "I will definitely look into it,'' he said.

The allegation was made to The Royal Gazette by an angry listener who tuned into 106 FM shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

He claimed he heard the foul-mouthed exchange in the background while a song was being played.

"I then heard a guy counting down to the news -- 30 seconds, 10, five seconds.''
