Reading `recoverers' set to enter schools
early warning system for children with learning problems.
At a ceremony at Ariel Sands, the first Bermudians trained in Reading Recovery were presented to Education Minister Jerome Dill.
Reading Recovery is based on a New Zealand scheme which was adapted to suit Bermuda. It helps primary school teachers pick up on those students who are having trouble learning. Children will be tested after Primary Two to catch those having trouble with reading and writing.
Bermudian Darnell Todd Winn spent the last year in New Zealand being trained in the programme to take over teaching duties from New Zealander Isabel Montgomery who instructed this year's crop of graduates.
