Mr. Scotton said yesterday he plans "to pursue a career in the Bermuda insurance industry'', although he would not say where he was going.

"The job has not been finalised,'' said Mr. Scotton, who has 14 years of experience covering the local insurance industry.

His decision to depart the Sun was not linked with the recent growth in the reinsurance market on the Island, he said.

"I have been working on this move for most of this year,'' he said. "I don't know if this is the end of my journalistic career.'' In addition to his duties at the Sun, Mr. Scotton also edits the bi-monthly Bermuda Insurance Update for the Insurance Advisory Committee.

Mr. Scotton was employed as a business journalist on The Royal Gazette for six years before joining the Sun eight years ago.
