School report is kept under wraps
which Government has used to justify its decision to move Dellwood Primary School to the current site of Northlands Secondary School.
"It's an internal working document of the Ministry of Works & Engineering,'' Education Minister the Hon. Clarence Terceira said in the House of Assembly.
Dr. Terceira was responding to a request for the report from Shadow Education Minister Ms Jennifer Smith , during Parliamentary Questions.
Government wants to make Northlands Secondary School a primary school so that spacious Dellwood can be made a middle school. Parents of Dellwood students and the Progressive Labour Party are strongly opposed to the plan.
As an alternative, parents have said the former Bermuda Technical Institute on Roberts Avenue should be converted for middle school use.
Dr. Terceira said "an in-depth study'' showed that "extensive demolition'' would be required, and the total project on Roberts Avenue would cost $26 million.
The cost was later revised to $22 million, after Government opted for a three-year middle school, down from four, he said.
