Schools given video history gift
historical videos that are to be included in every school library.
Minister for the Environment, Development and Opportunity Terry Lister presented the unique set of six feature films to Education Minister Senator Milton Scott yesterday.
Produced by Panatel VDS Ltd, and sponsored by Government's Millennium Committee, the films were aired on TV last summer.
And Mr. Lister said he was thrilled with the response of the public, and felt every school child should also have access to them.
The films, entitled "The Story Begins'', "Sea, Salt and Slavery'', "Boomtown to Boers'', "Votes, Visitors and Victory'', "Coming of Age'', and "Into the Future'', take the viewers from the day the Island was claimed for England by Sir George Somers to its status as a leading international business centre.
Mr. Lister said he was handing a set of the videos to the Ministry of Education, who would ensure they were added to every school library.
He said: "This will enable our future generations of young people to also enjoy a visual history of Bermuda's birth, its growth and our hopes for the future.
"I trust that our future generations will come to appreciate these films as a special gift that will keep on giving to our community well beyond the Millennium.
Mr. Lister thanked Panatel for their foresight in suggesting the film project to the Millennium Committee and said he would like to salute Bermudian musician Kenneth Amis, who composed the music for each film.
