The woman, in her 40s, was at the Warwick Minimart on Middle Road when the robber entered the store.

The man is believed to have struck the woman, who was not identified, causing head injuries. Few details were available as the Police had not been able to take a full statement last night.

The woman fled from her assailant and called for help at the neighbouring Gloria's Fashion and Fabrics.

The robber escaped with the contents of two cash registers. The quantity of cash stolen is unknown.

The owner was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and was detained for treatment.

Last night Police spokesman Sgt. Roseanda Jones said: "The proprietor is presently detained in hospital with head injuries.

"She was attacked with a weapon but at this point we do not know what kind of weapon. We only have a vague description of the attacker.

"She managed to escape and get help from employees at Gloria's, but the man had already escaped -- it is believed on foot.'' Sgt. Jones said Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area around 7.20 p.m. yesterday. They can contact Det. Insp. Legay Farley.
