Smith's North candidates to be confirmed
General Election candidates in Smith's North for the ruling United Bermuda Party.
The pair are set to be adopted as official candidates in the safe UBP seat at a constituency meeting later this month.
The two will replace Speaker Ernest DeCouto -- who announced his retirement at the last session of House of Assembly -- and ex-Works and Engineering Minister Leonard Gibbons, who is also standing down.
They will face lone Progressive Labour Party candidate Patrice Parris, an exempted company trust manager.
At the 1993 General Election, Mr. Gibbons topped the poll with 40.8 percent of the votes, followed by Mr. DeCouto with 40.4 percent.
PLP candidate Dr. Roosevelt Brown -- also a solo runner -- came well behind in third place with 18.8 percent of the votes.
