Tourism in Cup Match drive
lure African-Americans to Bermuda.
The Department of Tourism has a major promotion underway to attract wealthy visitors to see how the Island celebrates its emancipation from slavery.
And to make the four day weekend more attractive, there are a host of cultural events planned to coincide with the traditional cricket match at St. George's.
The campaign is being implemented by tourism's agency, VCG2, based in New Jersey.
The agency has been targeting wealthy African-Americans in specific areas of the North American market.
Target visitors in those regions spend more than whites earning similar amounts.
The promotion features special packages at many Island hotels, together with an emancipation commemoration, heritage night, cultural walking tour, Harbour Night, Reggae and Soca concert, and Cup Match itself.
