As a sign of respect for the veteran United Bermuda Party MP, all items on the House of Assembly order paper for the day are to be carried over to next week.

The carry-over is a convention followed whenever a sitting Member of Parliament dies.

Also today, Human Affairs Minister the Hon. Jerome Dill is to table a White Paper on racism.

Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan said the White Paper was a way of "fulfilling our commitment as per the Blueprint'' -- the UBP campaign platform from the October general election.

The Blueprint said that "recognising the detrimental effect of discrimination on all our lives, the UBP will work to eliminate it'' by: establishing a division of the Human Right Commission specifically to deal with race relations; and "establishing guidelines in partnership with the community and the private sector, designed to guarantee equal opportunity and the elimination of discrimination.'' Premier Swan said he did not want to pre-empt Mr. Dill, who was to hold a news conference today to discuss the White Paper.

"I think the Minister is a very proactive individual in this field,'' he said.

He would provide race relations guidelines so members of the community could "act in a mature way to address these issues, so the Country can move forward on the removal of any racial barriers.''
