Trust plans observatory
and Applications Board (DAB) to build an observation deck at the Warwick pond bird sanctuary.
The new observatory is part of a special project planned to improve the Warwick Pond nature reserve, and in addition the Trust aims to make the park more friendly by enlarging the parking lot, improving the trail, and continue with forest management.
The new trail will link up to the Railway Trail providing an enhancement to the route for walkers, and will require the installation of a handrail on the steps leading down from the trail.
The project is led by property manager Steve Conway and will incorporate interpretive signage about the migratory waterfowl that come from all over the world to "vacation'' at Warwick Pond as well as information about the animals in permanent residence in the pond.
Funded by a donation from Dennis Sherwin, who also sponsored the Paget Marsh Boardwalk, it is expected to be completed early next year.
As part of the Trust's new education programme, they hope surrounding schools will start to use the pond as an outdoor classroom to help students learn about Bermuda's natural environment.
