And a time capsule -- to be opened 100 years after the 1996 twinning ceremony -- was sealed this weekend in the Old Town's Town Hall to mark the occasion.

St. George's and Lyme Regis, Dorset -- the birthplace of Bermuda's founding father Sir George Somers -- linked up two years ago in a ceremony on the Dorset town's historic Cobb.

Corporation of St. George's Secretary Larry Jacobs said: "The twinning ceremony is an important element of the St. George's Heritage Plan.

"We take great pride in our cultural and historic links to Lyme Regis.'' The contents of the St. George's time capsule include copies of Royal Gazette reports of the English twinning ceremony.

It also includes photographs of elected officials from both towns, programmes, a photograph of the St. George's cricket team, books on the history of both towns, video tapes, business cards, artwork and even a photograph of the St.

George's Fire Service.

Lyme Regis was represented at yesterday's special ceremony by its Mayor, His Worship S.B. Williams and the Town Crier of Lyme, Philip Street.

A Lyme Regis time capsule -- with identical contents -- was dedicated at a similar ceremony in the twin town in 1997.

Neither of the capsules will be opened until July 25, 2096, 100 years to the day of the official link-up.
