US visitors fined $2,000
their spending money after they admitted bringing in drugs.
The offence was one of several to which Robert and Carol Litwin, of Port Washington, New York, pleaded guilty to in Magistrates' Court.
Mr. Litwin, a self-employed tennis professional, admitted possessing more than ten grams of cannabis and possessing drug equipment -- a pipe -- in St.
George's on October 21.
Mrs. Litwin admitted possessing 7.01 grams of cannabis and cigarette papers.
Prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said after arriving at the airport, the pair were searched by Custom officials.
Duty counsel Richard Horseman told the court that the cannabis was for the couple's personal use.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Mr. Litwin $1,000 for possessing the cannabis and $100 for having drug equipment.
Mrs. Litwin was ordered to pay a $700 fine for possessing drugs and $100 for having the cigarette papers.
