Firefighters rushed to the scene after reports that the 23-year-old man -- who has not been named -- was lying at the bottom of the 12 feet drop on Wednesday around 4 a.m.

Firefighters from Clearwater, St. George's and Hamilton stations used ladders to rescue the man, who was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to a Police spokeswoman, the man said he had been walking along the wall bordering the fort and stepped on to a ledge which he thought would lead him to the other side of the fort.
