credit for helping save a helmet diving boat which ran aground off the West End.

"If it wasn't for us, that boat would be on the bottom,'' said owner Mr.

Chuck Renaud Sr., whose crew helped keep the leaking Rainbow Runner afloat after its 32 passengers were evacuated.

He made the point after press reports overlooked the role his company played in the grounding of the Under Sea Adventures vessel.

"We're upset that our part in the operation was completely overlooked,'' he said.

Mr. Renaud said his marine construction and salvage company responded immediately to calls for a pump from Under Sea owner Mr. Greg Hartley when Rainbow Runner ran aground.

"It took us only 38 minutes to get to the vessel from the time he first called us for the pump,'' he said.

"When we got on the vessel, there was already 18 inches to two feet of water.

The pumps the Police were using just weren't enough.

"We were worried about it getting dark, so we just said we have to get this vessel moving back to shore.'' Mr. Renaud said his employees then set up a pump capable of removing 380 gallons of water a minute. Meanwhile, a second boat from Renaud Marine arrived with two more men and extra fuel.

"We surveyed the boat and discovered two-foot rips in the hull as well as a five-inch hole. We then sealed the hole from the inside, refloated the boat and escorted Mr. Hartley back to Robinson's Marina.'' Even though Renaud Marine is a commercial salvage company, Mr Renaud said he and his employees felt that they deserved at least a mention for their part in the rescue.

"We're on emergency call at all times,'' he said. "We just wanted the public to have the full story.''
